**Some new guidelines…
In an effort to respond to the request of many families this year (and for a few years before actually) we will pilot this dress code for this new school year. (In the spring of 2010 year, we will assess how this pilot worked.) I am telling you this now so when you do any shopping for school clothes, this may make it easier.
**There are some major changes in the code…please read and shop accordingly.
The way a student dresses reflects values and attitudes. Dress can also affect student behavior. A student’s appearance should be neat, should show respect for school and others, and should not be a distraction to learning. It is the responsibility of parents to insure compliance with the school’s dress code. If a student does not comply with the dress code, your child will call you to bring appropriate clothing; if a parent cannot be reached, the school will provide appropriate clothing for the student.
Guidelines for this policy:
Acceptable wear includes:
- pants/slacks/jeans: khaki, blue, tan, black or cotton /twill, corduroy or cropped pants
- shirts: any color, short-sleeved or long-sleeved t-shirts or polo shirts
- no words, slogans or pictures on the shirts
- St. James shirts with logo will be acceptable wear.
- shorts: khaki, blue, black, tan jean shorts, cargo shorts or cotton/twill shorts
- *no sports shorts or athletic shorts (except for gym)
- skirts and/or dresses: must be near-to-knee length; skorts are acceptable if leggings are worn,

FYI. We will have blue and white t-shirts available in the fall, with St. James School name and/or logo on the shirts. You will be able to order. Sample sizes will be available for you to see in the Resource Room.
