Our School and Programs
St. James offers a comprehensive education program that focuses on the academic rigor, hands-on learning, Catholic service, and athletic opportunities. St. James Catholic School offers a comprehensive education program and cultivates an atmosphere of belonging. Students develop academic rigor, practice faith in action, serve the community and explore enrichment opportunities. Whether engaging in hands-on classroom projects or devising independent service-learning experiences, students at St. James enjoy a plethora of opportunities to grow in faith and strengthen our community.
In addition to traditional classroom experiences we offer our students the opportunity to excel through programs such as the National Junior Honor Society, School-wide Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, and Spanish Bee.
All students 5th grade and older are invited to participate in after-school sports. We are the only private school in Madison Wisconsin where athletics are completely free for students!
Our After School Care Program is provided on-site for any student needing care outside of normal school hours. After Care is staffed by students from the University of Wisconsin School of Education and a full-time staff director.
All students are paired with an older or younger “Buddy” within the school. Students sit together in Mass, visit each other’s classroom and are “reading buddies” in Library time.
All students are welcome to participate in the Student Council. Student leadership is important to our students, and to us!
Junior high students are eligible to commit to Safety Patrol. Students are assigned a daily or weekly shift escorting a specific grade level to the school bus stop or the AfterCare program.
Overture Band Program
Students in grades 4th-8th are eligible to participate in band at St. James School. Our program is run through Overture Band Programs, Inc. and our band director is Mrs. Kelli Selje. Learn more about the Overture Band Program.
